Basketball Wives..Gotta Love It..

My newest guilty pleasure: Basketball Wives!!!

It’s my Sunday night must see. I love all of the juiciness of this show. It definitely keeps me entertained and has led me to look at athletes in relationships/marriages with a side eye. I know you can’t put the label on all of them, but this show gets you thinking. I honestly don’t think I could stay in a relationship when I know my husband is doing dirt behind my back. Well, it might be right in front of my face according to some of the ladies on the show.

Any way it goes, I love this show. Gives me a good 30 minutes of relief from the real world.

Hair Evolution

I’m ready for a change, a hair change that is. I’m definitely staying natural. The past 2.5 years have been full of ups and downs, but I can’t ever see myself going back to the relaxer. I worked hard for my hair and I’m not letting it go anytime soon. I wanted to go natural for soooo long. Probably since my sophomore year in high school, which was about 9 years ago (that’s scary). But, people always dissuaded me and I always listened. I’d hear, “Jordan how are you going to take care of your hair?” Or people would tell my mother, “I don’t think she’s going to like her hair like that.” It took me a long time to get up the courage to cut my hair, but in January of 2008, I finally did it. I was in the process of growing out a bob at the time, so I went from having hair just past my shoulders to about 2 inches of hair. It was quite a shocker, I’m not gonna lie. I rocked a weave for a good three months before I finally got comfortable with my hair, but now I love it.

Despite all of this love, I do want to switch things up. So here’s where I’m at. For color I want something like this.

I’m loving all of the browns and I think it’s the perfect look for summer. This is a go for me as soon as a find a colorist I’m comfortable with. Any suggesstions?

Ok. Here’s where I’m stuck. I don’t know what to do with my style. Right now I wear my hair in a big wash n go fro 90% of the time. It works for me because I exercise about 5 days a week and I am a sweater. When I leave the gym or finish a run, my hair is soaked. This is where I’m running into a problem with my style. Ideally, I would love to wear my hair like this.

I’m able to style my hair like this, but I refuse to sacrifice my workout for a hair style. If I were to wear my hair like this and workout as a presently do, I would have to put heat on my hair everyday, and I’m just not comfortable with that.

So this is my dilemma. Any suggestions out there. I’m ready for a change, but I just feel like I’m very limited because of my resistant to heat. I would love hear any advice. Hopefully I’ll have my new style in place by June.

Last Week of Law School

Just thought I’d let you all in on a little of my excitement. This is my last week as a law student. It’s really hard to believe that three years have already gone by, but gone they are and elated I am.

Since I’m not one of the lucky law students who is passionate about practicing law and has a six figure job all lined up, this summer is very important for me. I plan to use it to network, relocate, and begin my career. I definitely complained my way through law school, particularly after I realized that I didn’t want to practice law, but it’s nothing but magic from here. I’ll be doing what’s best for me from here on out.

I’ve got just a few words of wisdom for you. Live your dreams, not anyone else’s. Find what makes you happy and pursue it with madness. Once you find it, it’s up to you to go out and grab it.

Friends for Life

It’s so easy to lose track of the people who mean the most to us in life. Those childhood friends who know some of our deepest secrets somehow slip through the cracks and become distant memories. We take different paths in life and along the way forget about the people who journeyed with us all the way to the fork in the road. No phone calls, emails, or visits. The relationships simply die. It happens all the time. It’s easy. But the results can be life changing. Those relationships are important. They existed for a reason. They have a purpose in our lives.

I realize that sometimes people leave our lives because they need to. Sometimes relationships become toxic and at this point we have to break ties with friends despite the fact that we care about them deeply. These departures are different from the ones we simply allow to occur out of negligence. It may be a harsh word, but it’s true. Our neglect of relationships sometimes causes us to lose a piece of ourselves, and that’s not okay.

My plea is that you recognize the people who mean the most to you and maintain strong bonds with those individuals. There’s no reason to lose a friend because you can’t pick up the phone.

Sometimes you just see something that speaks to you. The second it meets your eyes it says, “THAT’S ME!!” Every aspect of it feels like it is a part of you. It’s a great feeling. It’s hard to shake.

Well today, that happened to me. I was looking at one of my favorite blogs, Fly, and a picture jumped right of the screen and into my being. This is it.

Product Review: Herbal Essences Hello Hydration

I LOVE this stuff!!

I tried Herbal Essences Hello Hydration (HH) the other day, and it worked wonderously. I was able to comb through my hair very easily (and not just any conditioner does this for me), and when I styled my hair it was soft and springy (a combination of HH, my leave in, and my styling aid). At any rate, I will continue to spend my $5-$6 on this product. It’s much better than spending $25 on a product that doesn’t work.

Private Beauty Musts…

Is there anything that you do in the name of beauty that you wouldn’t necessarily discuss over the loudspeaker? Well, a little secret that I have no shame in discussing is laser hair removal for the bikini area. I didn’t do the full on brazilian (just because I’ve done it a couple of times in the past with waxing and didn’t really like it), but what I did makes my life so much easier.

I was so nervous when I went in for the first treatment because some of the things I read sounded excruiating. But, I was very pleasantly surprised with the entire procedure. It took about 6-7 minutes to complete AND the pain was completely tolerable..more like mildly uncomfortable. If you are considering this, I recommend it 100%!!

No more waxing or shaving for me..when it’s time to hit the beach, there are no worries in that department. Gotta love the simple things.

At Our Very Best

I have a request. I want all of you to join me on a new mission. I want you to consciously work toward being the best you that you can be. Mind, body, and soul. The combination of the three make us who we are, and we can’t be at our best, unless each category is functioning at its best.

No one will ever be perfect, and I want to make it clear that I would never suggest such. But, there are things that we can do in our everyday lives to make sure that are doing everything under our power to function at our highest level.

Some things in our lives are wholly out of our control, and when these uncontrolled events occur, they tend to have a negative impact on one or all aspects of our being. There is absolutely nothing we can do about these events, but if we are already functioning at our best when these events happen to occur, our propensity to come out on the other side just a little bit stronger is enhanced.

The journey toward becoming your best is all about baby steps.

For your mind: Choose some topic that you want to learn more about, find a corresponding book at your local library, and begin reading it today

For your body: Walk around the neighborhood for thirty minutes during a time when you would normally be watching tv.

For your soul: Spend a few quite minutes becoming in tune with who you are spiritually. Irrespective of religious affiliation, determine what spirituality is for you in order to begin more effectively align yourself with what you believe in.

I’m on this journey with you. I’m not saying it will be easy, I all know is that the process will make me better, which is all that I desire. It can do the same for you.
